Ant was born on March 28, 1978, in Cambridgeshire but moved to Hertfordshire at a young age.
By age 16, he had already built and sold a kit car for profit.
The TV presenter started out as a member of a police Tactical Firearms Team and guarded the convicted rapist and murderer John Duffy.
He resigned as a police officer in 2005, in order to pursue a career as a car builder.
In 2014, he was approached to join For The Love of Cars, alongside Life on Mars star Philip Glenister.

Ant took the reins for the show in 2017, replacing fan-favourite Edd China.

The motoring expert’s breakthrough though was the TV show For The Love of Cars.
Like Wheeler Dealers, the show followed the presenters as they tried to restore vintage cars but For The Love of Cars focused specifically on British cars.
In 2024, it was announced that Ant may be fronting a new show called Ant Anstead: The Naked Mechanic.

Ant is currently dating Bridget Jones star Renée Zellweger.
The couple began dating in 2021, after meeting on Celebrity IOU: Joyride.
Ant has a son and a daughter from his first marriage and another son with American TV personality Christina Hall.
He divorced his first wife in 2017, which was the same year that he began dating Christina.
Christina and Ant decided to end their marriage in 2020 and formally divorced in 2021.
